About this book

Sing, goddess, the anger of Achilles: in the tenth year of the Greek siege of Troy, Agamemnon takes away the captive woman given to Achilles as his prize, and the greatest of the Greek warriors withdraws from the fighting. Without him the Trojans, led by Hector, drive the Greeks back to their ships, until Achilles' beloved friend Patroclus is killed. Achilles returns in fury, kills Hector and drags his body round the walls, and the poem ends when the old king Priam comes alone by night to ask for his son's body.
