Alice climbs through the mirror above the fireplace into a world where everything runs backwards, and finds that the countryside is laid out like a giant chessboard. She sets out as a pawn to become a queen, and on the way meets the Red Queen, who must run as fast as she can to stay in the same place, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the White Knight who keeps falling off his horse, and Humpty Dumpty, who explains the poem Jabberwocky and makes words mean whatever he chooses.
Context and significance
Lewis Carroll published this sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, also in this library, in 1871. Ten LibriVox volunteers read a chapter or so each, in about three and a quarter hours.
