About this book

Robert Frost's first book of poems, arranged like the story of a young man's inner life through the seasons, contains lyrics of love, solitude and the New England countryside: 'Into My Own'; 'Mowing', in which a scythe whispers in the hay; 'The Tuft of Flowers', about flowers a mower has spared for others to enjoy; 'Storm Fear'; and 'Reluctance'.

Context and significance

Frost published the book in London in 1913, at thirty-nine, after years of farming and teaching in New Hampshire, and its title comes from Longfellow's poem 'My Lost Youth': 'A boy's will is the wind's will.' Read his North of Boston.
