About this book

Psmith, a monocled, elegant and endlessly talkative young man, places an advertisement in the newspaper offering to do anything at all, 'crime not objected to'. Soon he is hired to steal a diamond necklace at Blandings Castle, home of the absent-minded Lord Emsworth, who cares only for his garden, and he goes there pretending to be a Canadian poet, while falling in love with the castle's new librarian, Eve Halliday, and dodging a pair of real crooks after the same jewels.

Context and significance

P. G. Wodehouse published the novel in 1923, bringing together two of his most famous creations, Psmith and Blandings Castle, and it is often counted among his best. Read My Man Jeeves and The Inimitable Jeeves.
