Über das Buch

Lucy Honeychurch, a well-brought-up young Englishwoman travelling in Florence with her fussy cousin and chaperone, accepts an exchange of rooms from the unconventional Mr Emerson and his son George so that she can have a view of the Arno. In Italy, among churches, a violent quarrel in a piazza and a field of violets, George kisses her; back in Surrey she becomes engaged to the cultivated, snobbish Cecil Vyse, and must decide whether to follow convention or her own heart.

Hintergrund und Bedeutung

E. M. Forster published the novel in 1908, a light comedy with a serious argument for honesty in love. Kara Shallenberg reads it alone, in about seven and three-quarter hours.
