Arsène Lupin, a thief of perfect manners and a hundred disguises, is arrested by Inspector Ganimard aboard a transatlantic liner in the very first story, and in the next he robs a château while still in prison, then walks out of jail on the day of his trial. In nine linked stories he steals the Queen's necklace, opens Madame Imbert's legendary safe, and meets the great English detective Sherlock Holmes himself, who arrives just too late.
Context and significance
Maurice Leblanc published the stories in France in 1907 as a French answer to Sherlock Holmes, and Lupin, known to many Arab readers from translated novels, became France's favourite rogue. Six LibriVox volunteers read the English translation in about six hours.
