Sobre el libro

Man, Aristotle writes, is by nature a political animal, and the city exists not merely for life but for the good life. He begins with the household and the village, criticises Plato's ideal state, then surveys the constitutions of his time: monarchy, aristocracy and constitutional government, with their corruptions into tyranny, oligarchy and democracy, and the causes of revolution in each. The last books sketch the best state and the education of its citizens. His defence of slavery belongs to his age; his analysis of how regimes rise and fall still reads as fresh.

Contexto e importancia

Aristotle based the work on a study of the constitutions of more than a hundred and fifty Greek cities, and it has been read wherever politics is studied ever since. Nine LibriVox volunteers read it in about nine hours.
