Über das Buch

Princess Irene, eight years old, lives in a lonely house on a mountain under which the goblins have their caves, and they plot to flood the mines and carry her off. In a tower room she finds her mysterious great-great-grandmother spinning a thread so fine it is invisible, which can always lead her home. Meanwhile Curdie, a brave young miner, overhears the goblins' plans, and the two children must trust each other to defeat them.

Hintergrund und Bedeutung

George MacDonald, a Scottish writer much admired by C. S. Lewis and Tolkien, published the book in 1872. Andy Minter reads it alone, in about five hours.
