Über den Autor

Mustafa Lutfi al-Manfaluti (1876–1924), from Manfalut in Upper Egypt, studied at al-Azhar under Muhammad Abduh and won a huge readership with the essays of al-Nazarat and the sad stories of al-Abarat.

Knowing no French, he had novels translated for him and rewrote them in his own Arabic: Magdoline from Alphonse Karr, For the Crown from François Coppée, and The Poet from Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac.
