Sobre este libro

In three books addressed to his son Marcus, then a student in Athens, Cicero sets out a practical guide to moral duty: first what is honourable, the virtues of wisdom, justice, courage and self-control; then what is useful, how to win friends, reputation and influence by honest means; and finally what to do when the honourable and the useful seem to conflict, arguing that nothing truly useful can ever be dishonourable.

Contexto e importancia

Cicero wrote the book in 44 BC, the year of Caesar's murder and the last full year of his own life, drawing on the Stoic philosopher Panaetius, and for centuries it was one of the most widely read books of moral philosophy in Europe. This translation is by Walter Miller. Read Cicero's Treatises on Friendship and Old Age.
