À propos de ce livre

Lorelei Lee, a pretty blonde from Little Rock, Arkansas, keeps a diary of her adventures, written with dreadful spelling and a perfect head for business. Supported by Gus Eisman, the 'Button King' of Chicago, she sails to Europe with her sharp-tongued friend Dorothy, and in London, Paris and Vienna collects diamonds from gentlemen, outwits a pair of French swindlers and meets 'Dr Froyd', who finds she has no inhibitions, all the while claiming to be a girl who wants to improve her mind.

Contexte et portée

Anita Loos (1889–1981), a Hollywood screenwriter, published the comic novel in 1925, and it was a huge best-seller, admired by readers as different as James Joyce and Edith Wharton. The 1953 film with Marilyn Monroe made 'Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend' famous. Compare The Diary of a Nobody.
