Sobre este livro

In Religio Medici, 'the religion of a doctor', Thomas Browne, a physician in Norwich, explains with charm and candour how a man of science can also be a Christian: he loves mysteries, tolerates other faiths and finds God in nature as much as in scripture. Hydriotaphia, or Urn Burial, begins with some ancient burial urns dug up in a field in Norfolk and becomes a magnificent meditation on death, oblivion and human vanity.

Contexto e importância

Browne (1605–1682) wrote Religio Medici around 1635, and it was printed without his permission in 1642; Urn Burial followed in 1658. His rich, musical prose has been admired by writers from Coleridge to Borges. Compare Burton's The Anatomy of Melancholy.
