Sobre el libro

He was born with a gift of laughter and a sense that the world was mad, the novel begins, of André-Louis Moreau, a young lawyer in Brittany on the eve of the French Revolution. When his idealistic friend is killed in a duel by a powerful marquis, André-Louis vows to carry on his friend's speeches against privilege, and flees to become an actor playing Scaramouche, the rogue of Italian comedy, then a fencing master and a deputy in the revolutionary assembly, always pursuing the marquis.

Contexto e importancia

Rafael Sabatini published the novel in 1921, and its witty hero and real history of the Revolution made it his most admired book. Gord Mackenzie reads it alone, in about seventeen hours.
