About this book

In the Hundred Acre Wood live a Bear of Very Little Brain named Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends: the timid Piglet, the gloomy donkey Eeyore, who has lost his tail, the wise-seeming Owl, the busy Rabbit and Kanga and little Roo. Pooh gets stuck in Rabbit's front door after eating too much honey, hunts a Woozle, sets a trap for a Heffalump and joins Christopher Robin on an expedition to the North Pole.

Context and significance

A. A. Milne (1882–1956), a playwright and humorist, based the stories on his son Christopher Robin's toy animals, whose originals are now in the New York Public Library, and on the Ashdown Forest near their home. Published in 1926 with E. H. Shepard's drawings, the book entered the public domain in the United States in 2022.
