This mock history book takes the reader through English history from the Romans to the First World War in the form in which it survives in the memory of the average schoolboy, complete with 103 Good Things, 5 Bad Kings and 2 Genuine Dates, and absurd examination questions at the end of each chapter.

W. C. Sellar and R. J. Yeatman, who had met as students at Oxford, first published their parody in the magazine Punch, and the book appeared in 1930. It is one of the funniest books in English, though the jokes are funniest for readers who know a little English history; it entered the public domain in the United States in 2026.
