Sobre el libro

Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. Anna Karenina, the beautiful wife of a cold high official in St Petersburg, meets the young cavalry officer Count Vronsky and gives up her place in society for her love of him, at a price that grows heavier as society closes against her. Alongside her story runs that of Konstantin Levin, a landowner searching for meaning in work on the land, in marriage to Kitty and in faith.

Contexto e importancia

Tolstoy published the novel in instalments between 1875 and 1877, and it is often called the greatest novel ever written. This is Nathan Haskell Dole's translation, read by MaryAnn Spiegel alone in two hundred and thirty-eight short parts, about thirty-seven hours.
