Sobre el libro

Fog fills London and, at its heart, the Court of Chancery, where the inheritance case of Jarndyce and Jarndyce has dragged on for generations, devouring the money it was meant to divide and the hopes of everyone caught in it. Around it Dickens builds a vast story: Esther Summerson, an orphan who keeps house at Bleak House for the kind John Jarndyce and tells half the tale herself; the proud Lady Dedlock and the secret that her lawyer Tulkinghorn hunts; a crossing sweeper named Jo; and Inspector Bucket, one of the first detectives in English fiction.

Contexto e importancia

Dickens published the novel in monthly parts in 1852 and 1853, and many readers consider it his greatest. Cynthia Lyons reads the whole of it alone, about forty-three and a half hours.
