Sobre el libro

Harvey Cheyne, the spoiled fifteen-year-old son of an American millionaire, falls overboard from an ocean liner and is pulled out of the sea by a fisherman from the schooner We're Here, working the Grand Banks off Newfoundland. The skipper, Disko Troop, does not believe his stories of wealth and will not turn back to port, so Harvey must work for his keep for a whole season, and the hard life of the fishermen makes a man of him.

Contexto e importancia

Kipling wrote this, his only novel set in America, while living in Vermont, and published it in 1897 after studying the Gloucester fishing fleet. Mark F. Smith reads it alone, in about six hours.
