Sobre el libro

Bedford, a bankrupt businessman hiding in the Kent countryside to write a play, meets Cavor, an absent-minded scientist who has invented cavorite, a substance that blocks gravity. In a sphere coated with it, the two fly to the Moon, where they find plants that grow in a single day and, under the surface, the insect-like Selenites with their vast, perfectly organised society. Bedford escapes home alone, and Cavor's later messages from the Moon close the book.

Contexto e importancia

H. G. Wells published the novel in 1901, and its lunar society is as much a satire of human social engineering as an adventure. Mark F. Smith reads it alone, in about eight hours.
