Sobre el libro

In 1751 David Balfour, seventeen and newly orphaned, walks to the house of Shaws to ask help of his uncle Ebenezer, who tries to have him killed on a broken staircase and then has him kidnapped onto a ship bound for the Carolinas, where he is to be sold. When the ship runs down a small boat, David meets Alan Breck Stewart, a proud Jacobite rebel, and after a fight in the roundhouse and a shipwreck the two flee across the Highlands, suspected of a murder, hunted by redcoats and quarrelling all the way.

Contexto e importancia

Robert Louis Stevenson built the story around a real killing, the Appin murder of 1752, and published it in 1886; it is as much about Scotland after the Jacobite risings as about adventure. Mark F. Smith reads it alone, in about eight hours.
